Check the facts: stop made-up answers
AI sounds sure even when it is wrong. You can make it show its doubts.
The idea
AI writes the most likely next words. It does not look facts up the way a search engine does. Sometimes it states something false in a calm, confident voice. People call this a hallucination.
You cannot remove the risk. You can lower it. Ask the AI to label what it is sure about, to say what you should verify, and to name where to verify it. Some tools can also search the web. When they do, ask for the links and open them.
Rule for work: never send a number, a date, a rule or a name to other people without checking it at the original source. This takes two minutes and protects your name.
Your task
Explain GST in simple words, and flag what to verify
You want a quick overview, not legal advice. Paste the prompt.
Explain what GST (Goods and Services Tax) is in India, for a new employee in an accounts-adjacent role. Rules: 1. Write 4 bullet points, each under 20 words. 2. After each bullet, add a tag: [Sure] if it is a basic well-known idea, or [Verify] if it may change (rates, limits, deadlines, forms). 3. At the end, list 2 official places where I should verify the [Verify] items. 4. If you are not sure about something, say "I am not sure" instead of guessing.
What you should get
A real example of a good result. Your wording will differ a little. The shape and the facts should match.
Printed resultExample
- GST is a single indirect tax on the supply of goods and services in India. [Sure] - It replaced many older taxes, such as VAT and service tax. [Sure] - Businesses can claim credit for tax paid on purchases, called input tax credit. [Sure] - Tax rates, registration limits and filing deadlines are set by the government and can change. [Verify] Where to verify: 1) the official GST portal (gst.gov.in), 2) notifications on the government's tax department website, or your company's tax advisor.
